Welcome Madison Grace Fears

Monday, June 02, 2008

Welcome, sweet little Madison Grace Fears. She was born May 19, 2008. Cloys and Anna are so proud and Trevor was so excited for her to come that I bet he is thrilled. We can't wait to go see her and squeeze her, and call her George. Well okay we won't call her George or at least I won't, Scott might. More pictures later...

Oh Baby

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

This is my new cousin Mia Grace Walters. My cousin Dana has given birth to this beautiful little angel. They have been waiting patiently for her to arrive and she finally did this month. I can't wait to see her in person. Congratulations Dana and Brad!

Gary and Tara Come to Atlanta!

Tuesday, April 01, 2008

Gary and Tara came to Atlanta. We didn't get to see them the whole time they were here. Tara was visiting her cousin and Gary was here for one of his classes and he had competitions and a full schedule while he was here. But today we got to see them! Scott did have a bid today so he couldn't leave the office, but they came in to see him for a little bit. I got to go to lunch with them. We went to Moe's and got to visit for a while. We can't wait until they come back.

April Fool's

We had some fun today at work with April Fool's Day! Scott and I got to work this morning before we went in we decided we would have a little fun with some co-workers. Dave from the office needed to borrow Scott' s truck yesterday and we took his Trailblazer, so when we got to work Scott told him that his transmission had starting slipping (that's a joke because that has happened to Scott TWICE in the last six months), and Dave was so worried. I went and told Linda that I work with in the office that I was pregnant, she got a little more excited than I expected so I had to tell her really quick. After that it caught on and Dave started calling around with some "emergencies" of his own. It was also bid day for Scott, so after everything had calmed down and Scott got in the zone for the bid, he got pranked himself. Dave went to the bid and called him afterward and told him that we had won the bid, but that we were $300,000.00 less then the next high bidder, which made Scott freak! Everybody got a good laugh, even Scott. All in all it was a nice little comic relief for the day.

Going Green Challenge

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Well we have been challenged by our Sister-in-law Tara to Go Green. Well...since we are in a drought and have already cut our water usage by 10%, and we have already started using canvas grocery bags we are going to sort and recycle our garbage. We've talked about it before, but now we are going to do it! Watch for updates...

And the Winner is...

Thursday, March 13, 2008

This is the look of a Winner. Scott has been working in a new position at the office for the last month. He has been estimating! He is learning a new skill and he is enjoying it very much. He is getting to be more involved with the subcontractors and project managers. Well, he won his first bid yesterday!!! It is a brick fence job for the church. He has a couple more that he is working on for next week and I know he will do great! This is the look of a Winner!

Spring Forward

Monday, March 03, 2008

I have to tell ya, that I am so excited about Daylight Saving Time. I look forward to this time every year. I start watching for the days to get longer; when there is a little more sunlight everyday. I am also excited that "they" have decided to extend Daylight Saving Time, so it comes very early this year. So I thought I would throw in some facts about Daylight Saving Time, ya know just FYI:
  • Benjamin Franklin was the first to think of Daylight Savings Time.
  • Daylight Saving Time is NOT recognized in the United States in Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. (To all of my family in Arizona, "How do you like it? I would think it would be hard to get used too.")
  • Daylight Saving Time is called "Summer Time" in other parts of the world.
  • Daylight Saving Time has been used in the United States only since World War I, and began as an effort to conserve fuel.

There are just a few quick facts, but there is a lot of history behind Daylight Saving Time. Check it out,and enjoy the extra day time!

Update

Sunday, February 24, 2008

Whelp, I tried it again. I remembered to put all of the flour in and I made sure that I used 2 Tablespoons of yeast in stead of just 2 teaspoons. As you can see there has been an improvement, a slight improvement. It's as tall as it should be and brown in all the right spots, but there is still a big crack around the top. Oh well, maybe next time. If anybody has any suggestions feel free to share.

Valentines Day

Sunday, February 17, 2008

We always try to do a little something special on Valentines Day. This year, it was just kind of a bad time. Scott had had the flu and wasn't feeling very well, so we didn't go out. So, he suggested that we get the stuff to make spaghetti, and that we cook dinner together and then watch Lady and the Tramp (you'll remember the "spaghetti scene" I'm sure.) It was very sweet and romantic. We enjoyed the evening together very much, and even shared a strand of spaghetti. And if you are wondering, yes, I caught the flu.

Good TV

Monday, February 04, 2008

Have you noticed how there is nothing good on TV? Scott and I have, too. With television shows the way they are now, not much is family friendly and most things you can't even watch the commericals with your kids in the room.
Well, this Christmas Scott's mom (thanks Peggy) got us the first season of Little House on the Prairie. Yea! I was so excited, Scott, not so much, but now he is hooked. It's nice to have these sweet shows that are family friendly and family centered. Scott and I watch one every night (time permitting). I used to watch these shows every day when I got home from school when I was a kid, and I find that I enjoy them as much now as I did then. Scott especially likes the heart warming stories that make him misty eyed. I like the funnier ones myself, but see there is something for everyone.
We are now on Season Two. If you've never seen it I highly suggest picking them up, if you've watched it before give it a second look and share with the kids.

Tribute to President Hinckley

Monday, January 28, 2008

We would like to express our feelings and our testimonies of the recent passing of our Prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley. As most of you know, he passed way Sunday night. When we heard of this Monday morning it was a shock. Both Tracey and I, as we have made progress in our lives, have had opportunities to listen to his talks and to read his articles, and see what a great example this man was. We both have come to know in our hearts that he truly is a Prophet of God. He has been very inspiring in many ways to us.

We are grateful that he was a Prophet that built so many temples through out the world to make it easy for all of those desiring to attend the temple to do so, that includes us. It is a comfort to know that he will be with his wife. He has said on several occasions that he missed her and you could feel the deep devotion that he had to her and their marriage. Which brings us to bear our testimony that we can be together forever, and that should be a comfort to all of us. He was a great exemplar of that principle.

He was also a model of love and kindness to others. As you can tell from the picture above, you could always find comfort in his smile. He personified the Saviors example of loving his neighbor.

Tracey and I loved him and will miss him very much.

Bread Bust

Sunday, January 27, 2008

My Meringue's are Magnificent. My Stir-fry is Stupendous. My Bread is a Bust! I keep trying and trying, and have yet to master it. I found just the right loaf pans this weekend. I've been looking since I've gotten here. I had my yeast, and flour, and a warm place to let it rise and this is what I get! From this picture you can't see the big crack in the top, but it's there. My sisters-in-law make it look easy. To my mother-in-law it's second nature. For me it's just a bust, but I'll keep trying. (p.s. Scott did eat some and said, "but it tastes good." He's so nice.)

Finally Done!

For those interested, I have finally completed my first church building. However, I still have a few odd and end little things, and my finally walk through is February 6, 2008. They have been holding services, though, and have already dedicated the building. The church members seem to be really happy with the building from what I've heard. It's been an experience being involved with the Church on the business side. The Church truly expects near perfection. I always considered myself to be a perfectionist, but when you are involved with so many trades, it's hard to make sure that everyone is holding to the standards and specs the Church calls for. All in all, I look forward to the next. Our company is at a slow point now, however, we have other things going on. The Church has many upcoming projects, and my understanding is that they have more buildings budgeted this year than any other year in the past. Which proves to me the Church is truly growing rapidly.

SNOW!!

Sunday, January 20, 2008

We were very excited about the snow. Last Wednesday we got some nice snow showers (which will also help our drought) that were very pretty. You don't see that much down here so we were excited. Then they forecast more snow showers with 1-3 inches of accumulation for yesterday and today and with the "Siberian Express" cold front it would stick, but good. Well, yesterday we were out and about and there was snow and sleet falling. We finally got all of our errands run and got home to settle in and watch it fall and it quit, not to mention that everything that fell already melted and dried up. So we are looking at a lovely day, that is freezing and with no snow. After Wednesday how disappointing is that!?!?

Georgia's 100 Year Drought

We have found ourselves witness to a historic event in Georgia history (I'm sure several of the southern states history as well), the 100 Year Drought. We have gone from the basic dry and every other day watering your lawn to talk of only 90 days left of water and absolute watering bans. We pass by Lake Allatoona every day on our way to work and it is all but gone. At one point the bottom of the lake was so dry that it cracked. People went out into the lake beds with 4 wheelers and metal detectors. The pictures above are some that we have taken recently and this is after some relief with a few small rains. This has really illustrated the prophets' emphasis on being prepared and having food and water storage. Some of the other guys at work have gone out and bought the big water barrels. We went and stocked up on bottled water and 5 gallon jugs of water ourselves. Hopefully this winter will provide enough moisture to get us back up to normal.

15 Year Anniversary

Thursday, January 17, 2008

Well, as of Saturday the 12th it's been fifteen whole years, and where has the time gone? Not that we are old or anything, but 15 years! And I can't speak for Scott, but they have been the best 15 years ever! Not that they haven't been hard sometimes, but at this point in our lives and in our marriage we are happier now than we've ever been. It's wonderful to be married to your best friend. We are having fun and looking forward to 15 more years. I just talked to Scott and he says that they have been the best 15 years for him, too. So it's unanimous.

Happy New Year

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Happy New Year! I guess we are going to give this blog thing another try. It's been a busy 2007. We've enjoyed Atlanta. Scott got Church project finished (pictures will post later). The kids are busy with growing families. The Grand kids are growing fast and are an unlimited source of entertainment! And the holidays, what can you say about that. They were great fun, and very tiring, but great fun!

We are looking forward to the new year and all the excitement it will bring. We'll keep you posted, so to speak!

Independence Day

Wednesday, July 05, 2006

This year our Independence Day was full of fun.

I started the day with YOGA! My first try. It went pretty well. I didn't fall over too much.

We were invited to Brian and Miralyn's house for a pancake breakfast. It hadn't gotten very hot in the day yet, so the weather was pretty perfect (a little less humidity and it would have been right on). Breakfast was great and we hung out with friends and neighbors.

In the afternoon, Chris, Summer and Trenton came by and we got thoroughly entertained by Trenton. That kid cracks me up. He is so sweet. The boys went for a drive, and the girls enjoyed the A/C. We are glad that they have moved back this way.

The major festivities for the evening took place at Mike and Shelia's. They invited some people over (including us) and they cooked out. Very yummy! We sat by the pool and enjoyed the breeze.

Finally we went home and sat in our back yard and what the big fireworks from the fairgrounds. Which Scott and I were quite impressed with. They lasted for 30 minutes and were very good.

It was a great way to spend the holiday.
