Time Out for Women is great! I love going. I missed last year, but I did get to go this year. They had it in Nashville again and I got to ride up with Rebecca Smith and some friends from Georgia. They had some great speakers: Emily Watts (one of my favorites, I love funny people), Carolyn Rasmus, and lots more. Time Out is always very spiritually uplifting. There were great singers: Hillary Weeks and Kenneth Cope. It was very uplifting and very fun.

We had lots of fun and I can't wait to go next year.

Scott watches alot of the Travel Channel. He loves it, and since he's been watching he has seen these B-B-Q Cook Off's that they have in different places and he loves B-B-Q, so he has always wanted to go to one. Well, lo and behold they had one in our town. It was a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned event! I know your impressed. Well even more impressive is that this event just happened to be scheduled for Scott' s Birthday weekend. Happy Birthday Scott. AND when Chad was down. Yeah, Chad! So this is how it works...

First you come in...

Then you walk around for a while looking at all the cool stuff they have around. The big tricked out grills, the tractors, and the old fashioned stuff (not pictured)...

Then you get in line to come inside this...the "Lick Your Lips" Sampling Tent. This is where the magic happens...

This guy, and other guys, and some women, too. Dish up there best B-B-Q in little cups and set it out for you to sample...

Then you smell it, taste it, savor it, think about the texture, the smokiness, if it's rubbed, sauced, basted, if they used hickory chips, oak chips, charcoal, propane, and the like...

Then you say, "Chad, I don't know about this one," or...

"Umm...Chad, now that's some good B-B-Q"... Then you drop your five tickets into the jars of the 5 best B-B-Q's and your done...

And if little tasty cups of B-B-Q aren't enough for you, then you stop by this award winning booth for a whole sandwich. Which according to Scott and Chad was awful. Chad posed the theory that they stopped at the trophy shop and bought their own trophies...

And for desert there are funnel cakes and carmel apples and such, and you've had yourself one heck of a time, had a good lunch, and can strike one of your "Travel Channel To Do's" off your list.
P.S. We never did find out who won. For me it was "the first one", for Chad and Scott it was "that one in the middle."

Frightening Fun

Monday, October 27, 2008

With Halloween fast approaching I decided we needed a good scare. Scott didn't agree, especially since his first reaction is to "strike back" when the monsters come out. I finally convinced him to go to Netherworld with our friends Dave and Kristen, and as the icing on the cake, Chad came down for a visit just in time to go with us. Netherworld, according to the Travel Channel, is one of the best haunted houses in the country. And it was pretty good. They had monsters scaring people while they waited in line and some really scarey stuff waiting for us once we got inside. They didn't allow camera's in the haunted house, but I snapped a few shots of us and some scary dudes out in the parking lot.

Fall's My Fav

Saturday, October 18, 2008

Who doesn't love fall..., right? We were out pumpkin hunting and came across the cutest little nursery tucked away out in the middle of nowhere (which is hard to be in Atlanta). They had gorgeous mums and we helped ourselves to some.

These are what we came away with. Then it was off to find those pumpkins that we were looking for in the first place. Whelp, we found them...Lots of them. Big ones, little ones and ones just right for us.

This is one of the ones Scott picked. And this is what we did with them all when we got home.

Yo Momma

Sunday, October 12, 2008

No, my Momma! My mom and sister, Brandi, came down to visit us last weekend. Brandi is getting married and she asked me to make her invitations. So that was a good excuse to go to the scrapbook store and pick some things out. She picked out some really cute scalloped edged cards that are pretty simple, yet elegant that she can put her engagement pictures on. We went to Rafferty's for lunch and had some sunshine chicken salads, which are my mom's favs. It was the first time they had been down to visit since we moved to Georgia. It was way fun and I hope they come again soon.

Treasure Family Photos

Thursday, August 28, 2008

I received copies of these photos from my Grandmother. They are very precious to me because they are a link to my ancestors, some more recent than others. Family History is important to me because I believe in sealing my family together for eternity. My parents are not particularly interested in family history and were it not for my grandmother and her love of these old photo's I wouldn't have them, nor would I be able to add the extra layer of my family history by viewing them and feeling in them a since of who my ancestors were. So I would just like to remind everyone that your photos are treasures, not only for you, and for your children, but generations of your posterity. And even if your children seem not to appreciate them, your grandchildren or great-grandchildren might.

My mother as a senior in High School. She was already married to my father by this time. They were married when they were 17.

This is my Great-grandfather, George Edgar Coontz (aka Ed). I especially like the second picture. I just wish he was wearing his hat. He was married twice, his second wife was my Great-Grandmother.

These little guys are part of my family, too. The second from the left, the one with his tongue stuck out and the little gremlin ears, is my dad. The other boys are one of my great-uncles and some cousins. This picture was taken round 1956. If you have ever tried to imagine you parents as children...
